What makes our STEM program stand out
STEM Implementation K-12-to-Career
STEM is a pillar to the WD approach to education and preparing students as functioning members of the community by being exposed to the increasingly technology driven world. Between the three STEM labs, every student is exposed to the career opportunities available with STEM.

STEM Promotion
STEM Day and other events throughout the year expose students on what is to come as
their educational journey in the building continues. Elementary students are exposed to
opportunities at the high school, and high school students are exposed to industry
employers looking for talent or mentorship opportunities.

Diversified Options for all Secondary Ed Students, College and Workforce Bound
WD hosts several different NLPS pathways that allow students to explore their interests in
engineering, digital media, cybersecurity, information technology, business operations, and more. There is not another school of this size offering such a vast array of career exploration
opportunities.
ACE After-School Clubs – Exploring STEM Through Choice and Creativity
Anderson Intermediate School provides students with meaningful opportunities to explore STEM beyond the school day through a variety of ACE After-School Clubs. These clubs are designed to support different interests and pathways, ensuring that every student can find a STEM area that excites and engages them.
Students can choose from clubs such as Video Editing, Drones, LEGO Engineering, E-Sports, and hands-on STEM Maker Activities. Each club encourages students to problem-solve, collaborate, create, and apply technology in purposeful ways. By offering multiple entry points into STEM, students can discover new passions, build confidence, and begin to see themselves in future STEM careers.
The ACE Clubs meet daily after school and include transportation home, removing barriers and making enrichment accessible to all. Anderson Intermediate is committed to helping students not just learn STEM — but love STEM.
Literacy & STEM Family Nights – Learning Together Through Play & Exploration
Anderson Intermediate School brings families and students together through Literacy & STEM Family Nights held throughout the year. These events create meaningful opportunities for families to engage in hands-on problem-solving, collaborative learning, and joyful exploration — all while strengthening the connection between school and home.
Each event features a unique theme, such as Game Night, Trunk & Read, or a partnership night like “Our Water, Our World” with The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. Families participate in STEM challenges, interactive literacy activities, and learning stations that invite curiosity, creativity, and teamwork. Students and families experiment, build, read, play, design, and explore, seeing firsthand how literacy and STEM concepts come together in fun and meaningful ways.
By opening the doors for families to experience learning side-by-side with students, Anderson Intermediate fosters a strong sense of community and reinforces the message that STEM is for everyone — and learning is something we do together.
Real-World STEM Learning Through Community Partnerships
At Anderson Intermediate School, students experience STEM learning that extends beyond the classroom through strong partnerships with local colleges, organizations, and STEM professionals. These partnerships bring real-world tools, technology, and expertise directly to students, helping them explore new pathways and future careers.
Recently, the Ivy Tech Mobile STEM Lab visited 6th grade students, providing hands-on learning with drones and aviation technology. Students learned about different types of drones, practiced flying them through obstacle courses, and explored career opportunities in emerging technology fields. Experiences like these help students see how STEM is used in real jobs and real industries — not just in textbooks.
By connecting students with authentic STEM professionals and community resources, Anderson Intermediate ensures that students develop curiosity, confidence, and a clear sense that STEM opportunities are within their reach.
