What STEM means at Anderson High School
At Anderson High School, we envision a future where every student graduates ready to lead, innovate, and contribute meaningfully to an ever-changing world. Our classrooms are dynamic spaces where authentic, research-based learning connects academic content to real-world challenges — empowering students to think critically, collaborate effectively, and communicate with purpose.
Rooted in our belief that education should be both rigorous and relevant, we prepare students for success beyond high school through hands-on learning experiences, advanced coursework, and pathways that reflect the needs of today’s modern workforce. Whether through engineering design, biomedical sciences, computer programming, or civic engagement, Anderson students apply their knowledge to solve problems that matter — to their community, their future careers, and the world around them.
Our educators are committed to excellence and continuous growth, refining instructional practices to ensure every learner has equitable access to meaningful STEM opportunities. Together, students and teachers form a culture of inquiry that values curiosity, perseverance, and innovation.
Anderson High School stands as a hub of opportunity — where academic challenge meets real-world relevance, and every student is equipped to thrive as a creative thinker, collaborative leader, and engaged citizen.

What makes our STEM program stand out
STEM Implementation K-12-to-Career
STEM is a pillar to the WD approach to education and preparing students as functioning members of the community by being exposed to the increasingly technology driven world. Between the three STEM labs, every student is exposed to the career opportunities available with STEM.

STEM Promotion
STEM Day and other events throughout the year expose students on what is to come as
their educational journey in the building continues. Elementary students are exposed to
opportunities at the high school, and high school students are exposed to industry
employers looking for talent or mentorship opportunities.

Diversified Options for all Secondary Ed Students, College and Workforce Bound
WD hosts several different NLPS pathways that allow students to explore their interests in
engineering, digital media, cybersecurity, information technology, business operations, and more. There is not another school of this size offering such a vast array of career exploration
opportunities.
College & Career Fairs – Connecting Students to Their Futures
Anderson High School ensures students are prepared for life after graduation by providing meaningful opportunities to explore STEM careers, training pathways, and post-secondary options. Each year, the school hosts two College & Career Fair events, bringing together over 100 representatives from local industries, universities, technical programs, and community organizations.
During these events, students engage directly with professionals in fields such as engineering, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, computer science, welding, public service, automotive technology, and more. They learn about career pathways, job expectations, apprenticeship programs, degree options, and workforce trends.
To ensure every student benefits, AHS requires students to attend at least two College & Career Fairs by the end of their junior year. This guarantees that all learners — not just those who seek out opportunities — gain exposure to the wide range of STEM careers available to them.
By connecting students with real professionals and real pathways, Anderson High School helps students see what’s possible — and take confident steps toward their future.
TribeCast Broadcasting – Student-Led Media Production
Students in the TribeCast Broadcasting course at Anderson High School gain real-world experience by fully running the school’s broadcast media studio. From planning and scriptwriting to filming, interviewing, editing, and publishing, students carry out every role in the production process, building professional communication and technical skills along the way.
TribeCast operates a student-managed YouTube channel, where students produce episodes that connect directly with current events and the community. For example, during an election year, students researched public issues and conducted on-camera interviews with local Congressional candidates and community leaders. These experiences teach students how to ask meaningful questions, prepare for interviews, manage recording equipment, and work collaboratively under deadlines.
Through authentic storytelling and media production, students develop confidence, digital literacy, public speaking, and project management — all while gaining insight into potential careers in marketing, journalism, broadcasting, media production, and public communications.
At Anderson High School, students aren’t just consuming media — they are creating it.
Project Lead The Way Pathways – Exploring Strengths, Skills, and Future Careers
Anderson High School offers a robust sequence of Project Lead The Way (PLTW) courses that allow students to explore career interests, develop practical skills, and discover their strengths as they prepare for life after graduation. Students can choose from PLTW Principles of Biomedical Sciences, PLTW Principles of Engineering, PLTW Introduction to Engineering Design, PLTW Aerospace Engineering, and PLTW Principles of Human Body Systems — each providing hands-on learning connected to real STEM careers.
Across these courses, students engage in authentic, industry-aligned experiences: designing and testing prototypes, conducting biomedical investigations, modeling in 3D design software, analyzing complex systems, problem-solving as engineering teams, and applying the Engineering Design Process to real-world challenges. Each course includes resume-ready technical skills such as CAD modeling, biomedical diagnostics, aerospace system analysis, circuitry, data analysis, and scientific communication — skills used by STEM professionals every day.
Most importantly, PLTW coursework empowers students to explore future pathways with purpose. Whether students are drawn to healthcare, engineering, research, manufacturing, aviation, technology, or other STEM fields, PLTW helps them identify interests, build confidence, and make informed decisions about their postsecondary and career goals.
At Anderson High School, students don’t just learn about STEM careers — they experience them firsthand.
